At Ceras Martí, we’re passionate about wax in all its forms and applications. Today, we invite you to discover the fascinating world of wax melts — those little aromatic gems, also known as scented tablets or wickless waxes — that are revolutionising the way we fragrance our spaces. If you haven’t tried them yet and want to introduce this format to your business, let us show you what they are and how they’re made.
What are wax melts?
Wax melts are small pieces of scented wax that melt in burners or diffusers without the need for a wick or direct flame. Unlike traditional candles, their purpose isn’t to provide light but to scent any space intensely and for a long time. They’re perfect for those looking for a continuous and safe olfactory experience, as they don’t require an open flame and can be reused several times until their fragrance fades.
Their compact and practical format makes them ideal for both home and professional use — in spaces like spas, shops, hotels or yoga studios, where a scented atmosphere is key to the customer experience.
Main features of wax melts
Wax melts stand out for their convenience, versatility, and strong aromatic performance. Here are some of their key features:
- Wickless and flameless: they melt with heat in electric or tea light burners, avoiding the risks associated with open flames.
- High fragrance concentration: they offer an intense and long-lasting olfactory experience, even with small amounts of product.
- Reusable: they can be used several times until scent fades completely.
- Wide variety of shapes and colours: their mouldable format allows for creative and customised designs, perfect for personal use or retail.
- Easy to use and store: they take up little space and don’t require special care.
- Ideal format for samples or themed packs: they allow for combining different fragrances in a single batch, encouraging personalisation.

How are wax melts made?
Making wax melts is a simple but delicate process where the choice of quality raw materials makes all the difference in the final result. These are the basic steps to making them:
1. Wax selection
The base of a good wax melt is the right wax. We recommend vegetable waxes such as soy wax or rapeseed wax, known for their excellent fragrance retention and clean burn. You can also use low melting point paraffins for a faster scent release. The choice depends on the type of burner and the desired fragrance intensity.
2. Melting and temperature control
The wax is melted in a heat-resistant container until it reaches the ideal temperature (usually between 70 °C and 85 °C, depending on the type of wax). Temperature control is essential to preserve the properties of the ingredients.
3. Adding fragrance and colour (optional)
This is the magic moment. Once the wax has melted and its temperature has stabilised (between 60 °C and 70 °C), the fragrance is added. The recommended ratio is between 6% and 10% of the total, depending on the desired intensity and the wax’s absorption capacity. Stir gently to ensure even scent distribution.
If you wish to add colour, now is the time to incorporate wax-specific dyes, drop by drop, until the desired shade is achieved.
4. Pouring into moulds
The mixture is carefully poured into silicone or polycarbonate moulds, available in many shapes and sizes: hearts, flowers, bars, decorative figures… This is where the wax melts take their final form.
5. Cooling and curing
It’s recommended to let the wax melts cool at room temperature for at least 48–72 hours before using them. This resting time allows the wax and fragrance to settle and fully merge. In some cases, a longer curing time can further enhance the scent performance.
