Description: Candelilla Wax Pellets
Candelilla wax is a natural wax of high hardness, plasticity and is brown in colour. It is obtained from the leaves and stems of the candelilla plant (Euphorbia cerifera), native to North America, and especially common in the desert regions of Mexico.
Its chemical composition is characterised by a high hydrocarbon content (about 50%) and a relatively low amount of volatile esters. Its resin content can be as high as 9% by weight, which contributes to its adhesive properties.
Candelilla wax is also protective, plasticising, waterproofing and conductive. Like carnauba wax, it is prized for its gloss.
Uses and applications of candelilla wax
Thanks to its emollient and protective properties, its high chemical stability and its high melting point, it is suitable for cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical and technical uses.
Cosmetics and pharmaceuticals
Candelilla wax is a natural and safe ingredient, well tolerated by most people, that provides a smooth and creamy texture in medicinal and personal care products.
As a naturally sourced vegan component, it has become a popular choice among users seeking sustainable and ethical ingredients in their personal care products.
Food
It is applied as a coating for fruits and vegetables, confectionery products and chewing gum. It provides a protective film that helps retain moisture, improves food appearance and prolongs shelf life.
Technical uses
It is used in the manufacture of paper, cardboard and leather to improve their resistance to water and humidity. Also in the construction industry for the production of adhesives and sealants. In addition, it acts as an emulsifying agent in paints and improves the texture and durability of coatings.
Why choose candelilla wax pellets?
When molded in the form of small pellets, candelilla wax is an extremely versatile and easy to dispense product.
The pellet format also facilitates the solubility of the wax in aqueous and oily substances and is more convenient in terms of storage.
What’s more, candelilla wax is an excellent alternative to beeswax in vegan products.
