Microcrystalline wax 725 is a highly refined and purified type of wax used in a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. Its extremely fine crystalline structure gives it unique properties and makes it useful across a variety of fields.
Unlike natural waxes, which are of natural origin, microcrystalline wax 725 is obtained through highly controlled refinement of crude oil. During this process, impurities are removed and a very high quality material is obtained, with uniform crystals that are even smaller than those of paraffin.
One of the outstanding characteristics of 725 microcrystalline wax is its relatively high melting point and the flexibility that makes it completely different from paraffin. This product, solid at room temperature, is commonly used as a consistency, stabilizing and binding agent.
Inert and non-reactive, 725 microcrystalline wax is a safe and reliable emulsifier for pharmaceutical formulations. Thanks to its high melting point and its ability to form a solid matrix, it is often used in the production of tablets and pills and allows medicine to be released gradually into the body.
In the cosmetics industry, 725 microcrystalline wax is used in the manufacture of creams, lotions, lip balms and other beauty products, such as depilatory waxes. It helps improve the texture and stability of formulations and provides a smooth, silky feel on the skin. It also has the capacity to form a protective layer in the epidermis, which helps to maintain moisturization and prevent water loss.
In the coatings and adhesives industry, it acts as an effective binder, providing cohesion and tensile strength in formulations. What’s more, its microcrystalline structure permits uniform distribution of components, which improves the stability and quality of these products.
In the production of certain foods, such as chewing gum or coated candies, microcrystalline wax can be used in the outer layers to provide sheen, heat resistance and maintain product integrity.
It is also used to improve the water resistance or moisture barrier of paper or cardboard packaging that protects food.
Before purchasing microcrystalline wax for application in the food industry, it is important to note that, for this use, waxes and paraffins must comply with regulations and safety standards. Our 725 microcrystalline wax complies with European Pharmacopoeia and FDA regulations, among others.
