Ecological Alternative
With the growing demand for sustainable products, environmentally friendly and, if possible, of plant origin, candelilla has gained an important place in the world of natural waxes. Candelilla wax is obtained from an endemic plant of Mexico, which grows in the Chihuahuan Desert. Its particularity is being one of the few plants in the world with a high hydrocarbon content, which facilitates the extraction of its natural wax.
Candelilla wax was already known to the natives of the Chihuahua desert in pre-Hispanic times, when it was used for medicinal purposes and to protect the strings of bows against the forces of nature.
Nowadays, candelilla wax is obtained using an organic extraction agent, an acid, which allows for the production of high-quality wax without harming the environment.
Candelilla is a very stable, waterproof wax with protective and plasticizing properties, which also provides a remarkable shine, similar to that of carnauba wax.
The cosmetic and food industries are the main beneficiaries of this wax, which also has pharmaceutical and technical applications.
In cosmetics, it is used as an emollient and film-forming agent for skin protection.
In the food industry, it serves as an anti-caking, emulsifying, and coating agent, among others. Candelilla wax can be found in chewing gum, cereals, beverages, candies, baked goods, fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and much more.
Our candelilla is a refined high-purity wax presented in pearls that facilitate its melting. Light yellow in color and with high hardness and resistance, it works as an excellent barrier against moisture, due to its high hydrocarbon content.
